Downtown Detroit is one of my favorite places to do engagement sessions. Heather and Brian loved the idea of doing one spot Downtown and then driving over to Belle Isle for the remainder of the session. I especially like this combo, because then you get such a great variety in images– you have beautiful artistic and architectural based images and you also get the natural backdrop of Belle Isle Park. It’s really the best of both worlds. For their one spot in Downtown Detroit, Heather and Brian choose the Art Belt, which is right next to the Z Parking lot. There is awesome professional graffiti all down the alley that I consider a photographer’s playground filled with colorful backdrops.
We then went to Belle Isle to hit up some of my favorite spots– the red bridge near the Casino, Sunset Point (that has a gorgeous view of the Detroit Skyline, Ambassador Bridge and Canada– all in one!), the conservatory and we went off the beaten path near the end of the island to capture the beautiful Fall colors. At the very end of the session as we were walking back to our cars a hawk landed maybe 2 feet from us on a post and just sat there for a good 5 minutes. We all just sat there staring at it, dumbfounded that it would get so close. I couldn’t resist taking a picture of its beauty!
